About us

ASIFA HELLAS, the Hellenic Animation Association started its operation more than 10 years ago as an informal grouping. Aiming at promoting the Hellenic animation art.

In 2015 it gained legal personality as a not-for-profit civil society, seated in Athens (GR). Comprises the Greek national chapter of Association International d’ Film d’ Animation.

Represents globally the professional community of Greek Animation and closely collaborates with the Hellenic Government (Ministry of Culture & Sports, Greek Film Centre, ΕΚΟΜΕ, Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation – ERT, Ministry of Education & Religious Affairs and others) in several actions. Since 2019 Greece Animated has been the country’s national brand, promoting globally Greek animation talents and industry development. ASIFA HELLAS operates the website and social media pages informing on new developments concerning Greek Animation.

Konstantinos P. Kakarountas

PRESIDENT

Konstantinos P. Kakarountas was born in Lamia, Greece.

He is an award-winning director and producer, having participated with numerous short films as well as animated films in various international and domestic festivals. He has collaborated with many production companies both in Greece and abroad. Additionally, he has worked as a VFX Supervisor on a plethora of film projects and television series. He is a creative thinker who enjoys combining the art of moving image with technology.

He is the President of ASIFA Hellas – Hellenic Animation Association, and the founder of Dahouse Studio. He is also a member of PACT – the Association of Cinema and Television Producers of Greece.

Irida Zhonga is an award winning director and producer whose artistic expertise lies in mixed media, 2D and stop motion animation. She graduated from University of the Arts London with a degree in Film and Television and completed her MA in Film and Contemporary AV Media at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

She has been working in Greece, UK and the Netherlands for over 15 years and her work has been screened and awarded at many international film festivals such as Kaboom, Anibar, Drama International Film Festival and TIFF (among others). 

In July 2019 she was awarded the Artist Fellowship by the Stavros Niarchos foundation, in July 2020 she won a scholarship from ASIFA – Hollywood whereas in 2022 she received a grant from the Women in Animation (WIA) organisation. In April 2023 she became the Vice President of ASIFA-Hellas.

She is a regular invited speaker at film festivals and universities (Panteios, University of Cologne, University of Tubingen, etc) and a programme curator for the animation festival ‘Framed’ in the Netherlands.

Dimitris Savvaidis from Thessaloniki realized he wanted to tell stories and discovered comics and animation. Since 2005, he has been publishing in various Greek comic magazines, and albums collaborating with a number of artists and exhibiting his work both in the country and abroad. Teaching in Greece and abroad since 2003, he focuses on scriptwriting, storytelling, comics, and animation. He participated, alongside Valentina Karga, in the Biennale of Young Artists in Moscow (ABRACATABRA) and in the Biennale of Thailand (Kabri) in 2018. He is the founder of the annual TAF (Thessaloniki Animation Festival), proudly continuing since 2015. In 2014, he and his brother founded AddArt/Funny Tales, a multi awarded and one of the largest animation studios in Greece, producing animated series, short films and features. Some of their collaborations include FOX, Disney+, studio SUZA in Belgium. The studio takes part in co-productions with Japan, US, UK, Ireland, France and Canada. Finally he is on the board of ASIFA HELLAS the Greek Animation Association focusing on helping the Greek industry of animation to thrive.

Fokion is a Director/ Designer and VFX artist from Athens, Greece. As an animation filmmaker he is interested in playful and bold stories that focus on visual wit and emotional honesty. As a Designer director with a particular emphasis on colour and form he is very keen into combining practical and digital techniques to create unique emerging visuals. His MA graduation film “Heatwave”, produced at the National Film and Television School, premiered in Annecy and has been  screened in more than 120 festrivals  worldwide. The film has been awarded 32 times around the globe (Norman Mc Lauren Award /  Edinburgh Int. Film Festival, Best international Short film / Cinekid, Animasyros /  Best International student film and many others) . “Heatwave” has also been awarded Royal Television Society award for best animation as well as it has been shortlisted for the Student BAFTA LA for best animation short.

Post Doc Researcher in the field of Extended Reality and Doctor (PhD)  in the fields of animation and open and distance learning in University  of West Attica (UniWA). She has a Master of science (Msc)  in Comparative education, NKUA and  Msc in Cultural Organizations’ Management, Hellenic Open University (HOU). Journal Manager in the scientific- open access- e- journal, Animation Film Interactive Media in Education and Culture.

She is Deputy scientific manager in specialized training programs for adults and distinctive  member of center of adult education in UniWA. She is currently working as adjunct professor in HOU in the field of Film history and in UniWA in the fields of 3d modeling, animation and gaming. In this context she is one of the main writers of the odl educational material.

She is the communication manager for several films in Annecy 2019 and 2021 MIFA and for various educational workshops in the field of animation.
