About us

ASIFA HELLAS, the Hellenic Animation Association, started its operation more than 10 years ago as an informal grouping. Aiming at promoting Hellenic animation art.

In 2015 it gained legal personality as a not-for-profit civil society, seated in Athens (GR). Comprises the Hellenic national chapter of Association International d’ Film d’ Animation.

Represents globally the professional community of Hellenic Animation and closely collaborates with the Hellenic Government (Ministry of Culture, ΕΚKΟΜΕD, Enterprise Greece, Athens Film Office, Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation – ERT, Television Station of the Hellenic Parliament – Vouli TV and others) in several actions.

Since 2023 “Moving Forward” has been the country’s national brand, promoting globally Hellenic animation talents and industry development. ASIFA HELLAS operates the website and social media pages informing on new developments concerning Hellenic Animation.

Kleopatra Korai

PRESIDENT

Kleopatra Korai is a, Director, and Animator, co-founder of Lokey Animation Studio and a founding member of the Medea Electronique art collective. Her work focuses on 2D animation, motion graphics, and stop-motion, while her directorial projects include short films and documentaries that have participated in international festivals.

She has developed extensive international activity, most recently collaborating with the Doha Film Institute (DFI).Her work has been presented at major events such as the Asian Paragames in Singapore and the Ultima Contemporary Music Festival in Oslo. On a commercial and artistic level, she has collaborated with organizations such as Onassis Stegi, the Greek National Opera, the IMF, IKEA, Warner Music, EMI Music, McGill University, and IICSI. Since April 2026, she serves as the President of ASIFA Hellas.

Her career began with studies at the European Film School (Denmark) and photography at Blow Up (Athens), and she also attended a specialized animation course by Aardman Animations (U.K.). In her early professional years, she worked as a Production Assistant at Aardman Animations, while in Greece, she collaborated with the production companies Artoon and Aronis-Efthymiadis, gaining experience in both the domestic and international animation and advertising markets.

Irida Zhonga is an award-winning director and producer specializing in stop-motion, 2D, and mixed-media animation. A graduate of the University of the Arts London and the University of Groningen, she has worked across Greece, the UK, and the Netherlands for more than 15 years. Her films have been screened and awarded at international festivals including Annecy, Kaboom, Fantoche, Disff and TIFF. Her recent work has received the ASIFA Stratos Award and support from the Greek Film Centre, Animarkt, CEE Animation and Cinekid. She is a Stavros Niarchos Foundation ARTWORKS Fellow, ASIFA-Hollywood scholarship recipient, and Women in Animation grantee. Since 2023, she serves as Vice-President of ASIFA Hellas.

 

Dimitris Armenakis is an animation director based in Athens. In 2017 he graduated from Audiovisual Arts of Ionian University and in 2019 he graduated from MA Animation at the Royal College of Art. Since then, he has been working as a freelance animation director for commercials, music videos, short films and documentaries. In 2021 he was awarded by ARTWORKS and he is a fellow of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Support Program. In 2025 his latest short animated film, The Synthetic Age, produced by Frenel and supported by Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Center, premiered at Annecy International Animation Film Festival and has since been screened at more than 30 film festivals worldwide, where it received the award for Best Greek Film at Thessaloniki Animation Festival.

Animator and illustrator from the island of Kos, currently based in Athens. She graduated from the Graphic Design and Visual Communication Department of the University of West Attica in 2022, and in 2025, she completed the MA program ‘2D and 3D Animation’. She is working in the creative field of animation production and the education of animation in Greece. Her first film, “Looking for Joy” was awarded the Stratos Stasinos 2022 award for Best Student Film, and in 2024 she completed the production of her second short film titled “Cut the Tie”.

Director, production designer and animator. He has been working in the field of image production since 2000. Since 2024, he has been teaching cinematography in the postgraduate program “Culture and Documentary Production” at the University of the Aegean. He has served as a jury member for the Annie Awards and the “Ermis Awards” (Hellenic Advertising Awards). He has been contributing articles to Photographer magazine since 2012. His short animated film “Echo” has screened at more than 90 festivals and has received over 25 awards and 15 nominations, including 3 BAFTA-qualifying and 5 Academy Awards–qualifying festival selections. He is a founding member of ASIFA Hellas.
