ASIFA HELLAS – the Hellenic Animation Association participated for the ninth consecutive year in the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, the most important global event in the animation industry. This unique opportunity allows Greece to present the most creative part of its animation production to an international audience, with more than 16,000 accredited animation professionals attending the festival and its market (MIFA).
This year, the Greek presence was particularly strong, showcasing 39 animation projects in total. The Hellenic delegation included 24 professional projects by Greek creators and 15 student projects from the University of West Attica, confirming the growing presence of Hellenic animation at the Annecy Market.

2 completed TV series episodes
3 new series in development
The student projects from the University of West Attica included
10 gaming projects and 5 short animated films.

The Hellenic Pavilion (Booth F.11) was an initiative of ASIFA HELLAS – Hellenic Animation Association, organized in collaboration and sponsorship with:
EKKOMED – Creative Greece (National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication), Enterprise Greece, Athens Film Office and Sky Express.

The aim of this collaboration was to promote Hellenic animation internationally and strengthen the visibility of the Hellenic animation industry.
Under the slogan “Moving Forward”, ASIFA HELLAS seeks to bring Hellenic animation production one step forward.
The Hellenic Pavilion was strategically located next to the Creative Europe MEDIA Stand, which this year hosted two Greek companies: Funny Tales and Dahouse Studio.
The pavilion attracted a large number of visitors and stood out for its creative visual design.
For the first time, 42 Greek professionals were accredited at the Annecy Festival Market, marking an important milestone for the Greek animation community.

The first day at MIFA began with an important meeting between Cartoon Forum, represented by its General Director Annick Maes, and ASIFA HELLAS, represented by:
President, Konstantinos P. Kakarountas, Treasurer, Dimitris Savvaidis with the participation of Giannis Pitsioras, representative of EKKOMED – Creative Greece.
Cartoon Forum and it General Director Annick Maes, expressed interest in Greece becoming the honored country at a future edition of the forum in 2027. The meeting concluded in a positive and optimistic atmosphere.

During the following days, meetings were organized on the initiative of ASIFA HELLAS President Konstantinos P. Kakarountas with companies such as: Moho, Toon Boom Harmony and Wacom.

These companies develop software and equipment widely used by animation professionals worldwide. Discussions focused on the possibility of organizing international masterclasses in Greece, featuring distinguished creators.
Additional meetings were held with representatives from:
CEE Animation Network (Eastern European Animation Producers) and
Animation in Europe (European Animation Producers Association), of which ASIFA HELLAS is a member.

Further discussions took place with representatives from Ireland, Spain, Catalonia and Japan, with the aim of establishing memoranda of cooperation between Greece and these countries.
These initiatives aim to strengthen international co-productions, particularly within the framework of the new Cash Rebate GR Animate program.

A particularly successful international networking event was organized for the second consecutive year by ASIFA HELLAS, in collaboration with: ASIFA Hollywood, ASIFA China, ASIFA International, ASIFA Germany and ASIFA India.

The event took place on June 12 at the Chill Out Area of MIFA, gathering more than 250–300 invited guests and professionals from the global animation industry.

This year’s event held special significance as Greek animation celebrates 80 years, while ASIFA International marks 65 years since its founding.
The goal of this initiative was to strengthen networking among Greek producers, studios and independent creators, encouraging new collaborations and co-productions.

During the networking event, Giannis Pitsioras, representing EKKOMED, addressed the audience and highlighted the introduction of a dedicated animation category within the Cash Rebate GR Animate program.
The program is expected to allocate €40 million to support international co-productions between foreign producers and Greek production companies.
The announcement generated strong interest among the international animation community.
Ms. Fotini Nakou, representative of Enterprise Greece, pointed out the growing prospects for investment in Greece in recent years, with particular emphasis on the rapidly developing audiovisual sector.

On the initiative of Konstantinos P. Kakarountas the President of ASIFA HELLAS, Deanna Morse, President of ASIFA International, was honored for her longstanding contribution to the global animation community. The award was presented by Giannis Pitsioras, Director of Legal Support at EKKOMED – Creative Greece.

For yet another year, a Greek animated film was selected in the official program of the Annecy Festival. The film “The Synthetic Age”, directed by ASIFA HELLAS member Dimitris Armenakis and produced by Frenel, had its world premiere at Annecy as part of the Midnight Specials Program.
Both screenings were fully booked, receiving very positive reactions from the audience.
The film was supported through the selective funding program of EKKOMED – Creative Greece.

For the second consecutive year, ASIFA HELLAS replaced its printed catalogue with a QR code card leading to the digital catalogue, an initiative introduced by President Konstantinos P. Kakarountas. This decision reflects Greece’s commitment to green development and sustainability, reducing printed materials while improving accessibility.
